Membership in the Boston Old Path Sangha
BOPS (Boston’s Old Path Sangha) is a lay Buddhist community inspired by the teaching of Zen monk, Thich Nhat Hanh, as well as other teachers both within and outside the Buddhist tradition. Our mission is to nurture compassion and understanding within the sangha and throughout the larger society. Social action to relieve the suffering of all beings is an integral part of our practice.
The community comes together regularly to meditate and to deepen its practice. We seek to encourage and nourish each other through dharma discussion and mindful action. Our hope is to help one another celebrate the joys and wonders of life, while we work separately and together to relieve suffering throughout the world. We regard each other as brothers and sisters, practicing these concords:
-
We share our practice space.
-
We share the essence of our daily lives.
-
We observe the same mindfulness trainings.
-
We use only words that contribute to harmony.
-
We share our insights and understanding.
-
We respect each other’s viewpoints.
Membership is open to everyone, without exception. The suggested dana for annual membership is $25 a year, and it is optional. All are welcome to sit with us as well as to join us in all other sangha activities, whether as members or not.
